A closer look at the collection: an analysis of the young promising BWP showjumpers for sale at the “BWP Young Horses Auction”

On March 14th 2020, during the 3rd phase of the BWP stallion approval in SenTower Park (Leemkuilstraat 21, Oudsbergen) the BWP will organize for the first time the BWP Young Horses Auction. The collection consists of 15 three-year-old BWP bred showjumpers, selected by a professional jury. You can find the complete collection here, including pictures, videos, the pedigree and the report from a veterinary surgeon. We like to spotlight the auction horses.

If you buy a dam, you can combine sports and breeding. You have this unique opportunity, thanks to for instance Reine van de Voortakker. Her sire is the famous performer Comme Il Faut. Last year, once again he collected several victories and honourable placings in five-star tournaments and did an outstanding job at the Rotterdam European Championship, in partnership with Marcus Ehning. Reine’s dam, Chanelle, produced Zimbabwe (by Zip) who jumped last year at 1m40 level in Lier.

Raspoetin can also be used in sports and breeding. Her sire, the nine-year-old De Flor 111 (by Der Senaat 111) performed last year at international three-star level (1m55, John Perez Bohm). Dobel Van De Achterste Grobben, the dam of Raspoetin, produced her business card as dam of the approved stallion Orbit The Homage. In this dam line we meet several international showjumpers, amongst them Up To Date-M (Ludo Philippaerts), Brazil-M (Agathe Bosetti and Kevin Staut), Capito (Peter Leone) and Holiday VH Taubershof (Olivier Philippaerts and Sam Polleunis).

Riverdale van ’t Molsbroek is also a dam. She is sired by the promising Chaiton F, who was sold to Sea Coast Stables after his outstanding results, including his 7th place at the 2018 Lanaken World Championship for five-year-old showjumpers. The dam line is an accumulation of top performance blood, thanks to Diamant de Semilly, Voltaire and the famous receipt Lugano van la Roche x a daughter by Flügel van la Roche. At least or even more important is the fact that several international performers belong to this dam line (such as Kartouzo van ’t Kathof (five-star, Carlos Eduardo Mota Ribas), Itsi Pitsi Doree van ’t Kathof and Jella van ’t Kathof), as well as several approved stallions, amongst them Cha Cha B and Kartouzo van ‘t Kathof.

Thanks to Rebel S one can buy a grandson of Cornet Obolensky (ex-Windows van het Costersveld). Via his dam, Whatever, Rebel S is a half-brother to Bodygard. In partnership with Colombian rider Mauricio Ruiz, Bodygard jumped at international 1m40 to 1m50 level. Wilia van den Bisschop, the grandmother of Rebel S, produced the international showjumpers Backup (1m60 level, Petra Havlovicova) and Zo Wie Zo (1m40, Tom Sanders). Hopefull van den Bisschop, who jumps at Grand Prix and World Cup level under the saddle of Jörg Naeve, also belongs to this dam line.

In the collection we meet three showjumpers that make part of the famous BWP performance family 13. Let’s start with Rolex van d’Abdijhoeve. His sire, Da Vinci DC, combines the valuable blood of two stallions that jumped at the highest level and nowadays are causing a furore as progenitors, namely Diamant de Semilly and Verdi. Rolex’s grandmother, Vanite van de Heffinck, produced Dax van d’Abdijhoeve (Pieter Devos). She is also the grandmother of Jos van d’Abdijhoeve and Nathan VD Heffinck. Vanite’s dam, Quintana van den Bosrand, is the dam of the performers/approved stallions Utrillo van de Heffinck and ASB Conquistador (ex-Bush VD Heffinck). There are two more auction horses that belong to BWP performance family 13: Rebelle van ’t Diepenbroeck (a daughter of Kafka VD Heffinck (five-star, 1m60) out of Rani, the dam of the approved Darco-son Uzi) and Roxy van de Eedthoek. Roxy is a daughter of Toulon (ranked fourth in the most recent WBFSH ranking for the best suppliers of showjumping horses) out of Luna van de Eedthoek. Luna’s dam produced Halifax VD Heffinck (five-star, Jacek Zagor) and the approved stallion Magic Star VD Eedthoek.

In terms of colour the piebald Rainbow-K van ’t Kattenheye is a little bit different. His sire, the piebald Ceasar has sired several approved stallions. Via his dam line, Rainbow-K belongs to the Holstein performance family 318 a3. Rainbow-K’s great-grandmother, Karmanjola, is the dam of the international showjumper Quel Orion (two-star, 1m50, Dirk Schröder).

Nicola Philippaerts and H&M Chilli Willi (by Casall) are playing a leading role on the international five-star showjumping scene. Those who want a son of H&M Chilli Willi have to make a bid on Rasall Van De Blinkhoeve. Is somebody interested in a direct son of progenitor Casall combined with a strong performance dam line? In that case, you should make a bid on Rassall van ’t Zorgvliet. His dam, Valina, carries the highly popular performance blood of Heartbreaker. She produced Camax L (ex-Galant VD Heffinck, who jumped at international 1m45 level) and the approved stallion Qualoubet van ‘t Zorgvliet.

Tangelo VD Zuuthoeve, ranked 13th in the most recent WBFSH ranking for the best suppliers of showjumping horses, is represented in the auction by his son Rocker Van De Bresser. Rocker is a half-brother to Hending Van De Bresser who participated at World Cup classes, Grand Prix and even a Nations’ Cup. And what do you think about Romy van ’t Bergske? Her sire, Kaiser van het Lambroeck, performs at 1m50 to 1m60 showjumping classes (under the saddle of Cassio Rivetti), whereas her dam Espri van de Zandhoef produced the international performers Hoegie and Leffe van ’t Bergske. If you are interested in a descendant of the performer Le Blue Diamond van ’t Ruytershof (five-star, 1m55, Olivier Philippaerts) don’t hesitate to make a bid on Rapid Blue. In his dam line, Rapid Blue combines the performance blood of Cor de la Bryère and the thoroughbred Alcanar.

Those who love French top blood, get the chance to buy the ne plus ultra, thanks to Ramona de Walput. Her sire, Quickly de Kreisker, caused a furore in the international showjumping world. Ramona’s dam, Ulm des Forets, makes part of an outstanding French dam line. By mentioning Royal Diamant van ’t Ravennest we jump from a French dam line towards a BWP dam line (number 19, foundation dam: Domenika). Royal Diamant’s sire, Carrera VDL, performed at 1m60 level. Royal Diamant’s grandmother, Rinka van ’t Ravennest, produced the international performers Giljan van de Ledeweg and Joblesse (five-star, Lauren Hough).
