Change of owner

Did you lose your horse’s passport?

I bought a BWP horse, how do I change the owner?

Send the   original   passport to BWP (Waversebaan 99 – 3050 Oud-Heverlee – Belgium) and wright name and address of the new owner on page 5 or 16. For BWP members a change of owner is for free, for no-members, it costs € 33,88

Attention!   We don’t accept checks, so you can send the money in cash or wait on the invoice.

Attention!   When the previous owner exists of two persons, we need the signatures of both people before we can change it. When the previous owner is one person, we don’t need a signature.

How to ask for a duplicate?

In case of losing a passport, a duplicate can be asked for in exceptional circumstances and only once.
The following conditions must be fulfilled:
  • only a BWP registered owner of the horse or pony concerned can ask for a duplicate;
  • the application must be made by letter, mentioning the name and studbook registration number of the horse/pony.
When these conditions are fulfilled, the case is examined and a bill is sent. For horses and ponys  staying in Belgium, the BWP secretariat delegates someone to carry out  a local examination. In case of a positive advice, a duplicate is sent to the applicant.
If the request concerns a horse or pony staying abroad,  the examination will be based on  the following data which have to be sent to the BWP secretariat by the owner :
  • photographs of the horse/pony  concerned;
  • a descrption, made up by a veterinarian;
  • a proof of the exactitude of the pedigree, based on a DNA or blood sample examination.
Costs for horses:
  • duplicate for BWP members (Belgium) : 125 euro, plus VAT
  • duplicate for non-members (Belgium) : 195 euro, plus VAT
  • duplicate for abroad : 195 euro, plus VAT
Costs for ponys:
  • duplicate for BWP members (Belgium) : 62 euro, plus VAT
  • duplicate for non-members (Belgium) : 97 euro, plus VAT
  • duplicate for abroad : 97 euro, plus VAT

Attention!   We don’t accept checks, so you can send the money in cash or wait on the invoice.

Foals

How can I, from abroad, register a foal in the BWP-studbook?

How can I, from abroad, register a foal in the BWP-studbook?

How can I, from abroad, register a foal in the BWP-studbook?

How can I, from abroad, register a foal in the BWP-studbook?

Countries where a proper BWP district exists (North America and Hungary) The foal identification (description) is made up by a specialised representative wo passes by during a certain period of the year. The local secretariat takes care of the registration, not the main secretariat in Belgium.

Countries which do not have own BWP operations The original service card has to be sent to the BWP secretariat in Belgium and the registration can take place in two ways :

  • the breeder brings his mare and foal to the country border and meets there with the foal identifier from Belgium

OFWEL

  • the breeder sends the following data in one package to the BWP secretariat :
    • photographs of the foal, showing clearly the markings
    • a photograph of the foal together with the dam
    • a written and drawn description of the foal, made up by a veterinarian
    • some thirty hairs with root from the tail or the mane of the foal (to check the origin)

Can a foal from an own, non-approved stallion be registered ?

It happens now and then that we are informed of “accidents” on the pasture. Is there a procedure to register foals that are the result of such “accidents” ?
Yes, such foals can be entered in the B-register of BWP under certain conditions :
The dam is BWP registered.
The sire is BWP registered.
Hair samples of the foal , the sire and the dam are available.
From the breeding point of view, those papers have little value, but te foal can indeed be registered.
If you give us your name and address, we send you the necessary information and documents.
